Half-a-billion smartphones sold in 2011

A total of 491.4 million smartphones were shipped in 2011, up a “strong 61.3 per cent” from the 304.7 million units in 2010, according to IDC as published in the Sydney Morning Herald.

Apple had a 23.5 per cent share of the global smartphone market, followed by Samsung and Nokia with 22.8 per cent and 12.4 per cent respectively.
